ABIA APC STILL INTACT; CHIEF OPAH REMAINS 2027 GUBER CANDIDATE

The All Progressives Congress in Abia state says Chief Eric Opah is the authentic Gubernatorial candidate of the party in the 2027 general election in the state.

The Public Secretary of the Party in Abia state, Mr Uche Aguoru announced this to Newsmen in Umuahia while reacting to a video circulating on social media claiming that Chief Henry Ikoh won the party’s governorship primaries in the state.

‎Chief Aguoru said Chief Opah emerged winner of the contest after polling 125,977 votes to defeat Chief Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh, who came a distant second with 5,905 votes and reaffirmed the full financial membership of Chief Opah since 2023.

He alleged that the viral video was said to have emanated from three people in a beer parlour discussing how they would destabilise the party if Chief Henry Ikoh was not announced by the National Working Committee of the party as the governorship candidate for Abia next year.

According to him, ‎the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC is yet to formally ratify and release the official result and insisted that the figures announced by the primary election committee remained the authentic outcome of the exercise.

While describing the viral video as laughable and people under the influence of alcohol, Chief Aguoru explained that the May 21, 2026 Primary was peacefully conducted under the supervision of the duly constituted election committee, whose chairman, Mr. Erasmus Cishak, announced the outcome after the collation of results from across the state.

On the delay in releasing the names of successful candidates to fly the flag of the party, Chief Aguoru explained that the National Working Committee of the party was being thorough to avoid litigations that might arise after the announcement of successful candidates.

The Publicity Secretary urged the party faithful to have confidence in the process and dismissed all insinuations that certain individuals would be short changes.

Answering questions from Newsmen, Chief Aguoru reaffirmed the support of over 200,000 Abia APC members stressing that the party is still intact determined and focused to clear the 2027 general polls in the state.
