About 300 Abia APC vulnerable Widows from the 17 Local Government Areas of the state have been empowered with wrappers, an initiative of inclusiveness and love.

The Widows and other mothers in their numbers during the programme pledged fervent prayers for President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to succeed in office and his re-election in 2027.

Distributing the wrappers at the APC Secretariat in Umuahia, during the 2026 Mid-year APC Women Prayers and Widows Empowerment Summit with the theme “Arise and Shine: God’s Provision for the Women”, the South-east Women Leader, Dr Oby Ajih noted that women are the bedrock of every political party.

Dr. Ajih explained that the widows’ outreach was in line with directives from the National leadership and formed part of efforts to provide support for widows across the country and commended the Abia State Woman Leader for putting up the programme and prioritising the welfare of women in the party despite her short period in office.

In her message, the wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Dr Ajih explained that Mrs Tinubu had acknowledged every support of the women of the South East including Abia and urged them to double their efforts especially with prayers

While assuring the women the continuous inclusiveness of women in the present administration irrespective of tribe, more developmental projects and job opportunities, the Zonal Woman Leader, quoted the Wife of the President that the era of relegating women to the background in politics was over.

She further called for prayers for the nation’s security challenges, expressing optimism that peace and stability would prevail across the country, while expressing the hope that the school children alongside their teachers who were abducted in Oyo state would be rescued alive.

She cautioned against the spread of misinformation on social media, while disseminating reports of an alleged school kidnapping saga in Enugu State and other issues across the country.

Earlier, the Abia APC Women Leader, Lady Cecilia Chinoo Erondu commended the women especially the Widows for trooping out en-mass for the prayer summit which is the first major prayer summit to be organized under her leadership and noted that the Widows’ empowerment initiative was aimed at providing succour and demonstrating love to vulnerable women in Abia.

While commending the Stakeholders of the party who supported the Empowerment exercise, Lady Erondu promised more empowerment programmes ahead and maintained that the welfare of women remains a priority under her leadership and enjoined members to be steadfast united, focused and committed to enable APC to wax more stronger in the state

In his goodwill message, the APC candidate for Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency, Chief Uzor Azubuike, applauded Lady Erondu for the empowerment programme initiative and described the gesture as a demonstration of commitment to the welfare of women and widows in the state and urged her to sustain the tempo to ensure stronger women participation in APC politics.

The beneficiaries who smiled home with wrappers all expressed appreciation for the gesture and pledged their unflinching support to the party as greater days unfold for them in APC.
The event featured prayers for the nation, the leadership of the party, women entrepreneurs, professionals and widows as well as distributions of wrappers to the vulnerable widows.
