SOUTHEAST GOVERNORS RESTATE COMMITMENTS TO ADDRESSING INSECURITY AFFECTING THE REGION.

Southeast Governors have restated their resolve to address the security challenges affecting the zone .

The Governors made the resolution in Abia state during the Maiden Southeast Security meeting organised by the Federal Ministry of Defence in collaboration with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement South-East Zone.

The summit with theme, “Collaborative Approaches to Strengthening Security and Regional Stability came amidst growing concerns over kidnapping, attacks on security personnel,, armed criminality farmers — herders clashes and other security threats in the South East.

In his address, the Host Governor, Dr Alex Otti said his administration is collaborating with security agencies in making Abia unconducive for criminals and urged the people to see security as everyone’s business

In their goodwill messages, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, represented by his Deputy, Ifeanyi Ossai; Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State represented by his Deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Ebonyi State Governor Chief Francis Nwifuru represented by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Moses Ije Odunwa; and Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, represented by his Special Adviser on Security, Brig.-Gen. Joseph Chima Ogbonna (retd.), promised to sustain their collaboration with community leaders and the federal government in securing their States.

Participants at the event deliberated on practical strategies for strengthening inter-state security cooperation, intelligence gathering, community policing across the South-East Zone.

The maiden South-East Regional Security Summit brought together security chiefs, federal government officials, National and State lawmakers, traditional rulers and other stakeholders, while the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio was represented by Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua.
