CONTRACTOR RESUMES WORK ON 33 COLLEGE ROAD, NSUGBE AFTER ITS ABANDONMENT.

Traders, motorists and residents of 33 College Road, Nsugbe in Anambra East LGA have applauded the contractor handling the road project for resuming work at the site.

They spoke with Radio Nigeria on the deplorable condition of the road, which they said had caused hardship to residents, motorists and traders.

A trader, Mrs. Egodi Chukwura, said the bad road had negatively affected their businesses, noting that transport fare from 33 to Onitsha by Keke had increased from five hundred naira to one thousand naira.

A resident, Mr. John Uka, said the condition of the road had forced motorists to increase transport fares from seven hundred naira to one thousand five hundred naira.

Mr. Uka lamented that the road had also damaged vehicles, saying he had spent over fifty thousand naira to replace his vehicle’s shock absorbers.

A Keke operator, Mr. Chima Ogeh, blamed the Anambra State Government for the hardship caused by the road.

He said he had spent about thirty thousand naira repairing his Keke because of the poor condition of the road, adding that some Keke operators had diverted to Upper Iweka and MCC routes, resulting in fewer tricycles on the road.

However, a politician, Mr Eze Nwachinaemere, commended the state government for awarding the road project.

He urged residents to demand accountability from the contractor handling the project, stressing that the government had done its part by awarding the contract.

Mr Nwachinaemere also appealed to the contractor to scrape and level the road, noting that there were too many potholes and uneven portions.

Another resident, Mr. Chinedu Obiekwe, urged the contractor to expedite work on the road now that the rain had subsided.
